SCOUTS AND GUIDES ACTIVITIES

THRILLING MOVEMENTS

Master : Anish Ahammad – IX -B section

Memory : NATIONAL JAMBOREE-2007

The best time I had as a scout was when I was in BS & GUIDES SPECIAL CENTENARY NATIONAL JAMBOREE 2007 held at Delhi between 12TH December to 31ST December 2007.
The divisional rally was inaugurated with the theme of “ONE WORLD ONE PROMISE and PUNCTUALITY AS THE HALL MARK” by the chief of the rally Mr. Manjunath kadam. Principal of AFS. Yelahanka Bangalore. In the rally there were many events, functions and activities. Such as March past, pageantry show, skill o ram, camp craft, pioneering projects, group dance, group songs, gate competitions and finally ground camp fire. In rally about grand 160 scouts and guides participated from different KVs of Karnataka, Kerala & Goa. My friends and I participated in all events with a great enthusiasm. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed each & every moment. Then I came to know that scouting for boys is as Bible of young members of moments of youth which is physically, morally and spiritually strong.

At the end of second day rally I had thrilling news that I have been selected for national jamboree. At that time it was the happiest moment for me in my life but when I learnt that I was the only scout from K.V.BEML. I felt bad that there was no companion from our school.

When we reached Delhi on the morning of 19th December’07. Ohhh! The scenario was entirely different. Buildings were not visible. We were finding difficulty to withstand against extreme cold. We were in search of sunlight.

KV State rally was conducted in KV PITAMPUR Delhi and rally was inaugurated about grand 510 scouts and guides participated from 18 different KV regions all over India.

As similar to Divisional rally there were March past, pageantry show, group song, dance and adventures activities etc took place. A short go of exercise every morning like playing games, ‘BP’ six exercises, running were the grand things that kept us fit. In pioneering projects we made huge bridges. It is to be wise? After an event such a simple thing as tying knots can save life? A life may depend on knot being properly tied.

The final stage of rally was special centenary national jamboree which was organized in the Burari grounds out skirts’ of New Delhi. I was really surprised to see countless tents pitched all around ten kilometers long area. And about 25,000 Scout’s and Guide’s were participated from different parts of our country and neighboring countries. Scouts & guides of Srilanka, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan are stayed in the same ground for a period of six days. It looked like a mini world to me.

EVENTS OF JAMBOREE

  • ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES: Ladder crossing Steep board, Tarzan jump, Tiger jump, Rope climbing, Commando crossing, Russian wall, Plank walk, Tire wall crossing, Swinging board.

  • FUN ACTIVITIES: Gun shooting, Basket ball, touching target, ball throw, Archery, C-sliding, Skate board, Fun riding.

  • INTELLECTUAL ACTIVITIES: Radio amateur, Computer awareness, Electronics, Slogan writing, Painting, Puzzle corner, Singing etc.

  • SPECIAL PROGRAMMES: Delhi Nights, International Nights. These special programmes made us to see the various cultures of all the states of India and Neighboring countries. We participated in every event and activity. I am proud to say that I was the first boy to complete among the rally mates.

Well, I enjoyed and had great experience in all kind of events, activity. I know that every true scout boy is keen for a adventure and open air life and becoming an able and efficient boy. Camping is the great joyous part of scouting life which appeals to us an opportunity to learn about ourselves self reliance, resourcefulness, and be tough to face troubles with a smiling face.

Remember, too that scouting is not only events of student life “A friend of the world” within a couple of day’s we all moved like a well known brother & sisters and shared lot of things enjoyed with oneness. It is sweetest memories in my life.

We reached Bangalore at night on second day of New year. Everybody said “Dost, Alvida, phir milenge” these words toughed my heart. When I reached my place, physically I was at home but my mind recalled all memories. I whole heartedly grateful to our principal for giving me this opportunity to be a part of the rally. I felt that I am luckiest boy of KV BEML.

And also to my grateful parents, without whom I couldn’t have done this. I know my parents were in tension & worried about the climatic condition. But with their encouraging words I was able to withstand such tough situation & succeeded in every walk of my life. I am very much THANKFUL TO MY GIFTED PARENTS.
